The Challenge For Churches

Today's modern church has grown complex with various members going through different life stages and challenges, calls for a unique and research informed approach.  Many churches are not equipped in ways to meet the needs of members and resort to "outsourcing' help for peoples' deepest needs.  See below for training opportunities on zoom or for an in-person visit.

Workshops to Train and Energize Your Church

Church Hurts Workshops. These workshops address the multitude of hurts that have occurred over the years with current (or former) church members. Rather than delving non-stop into the hurts, we acknowledge them, validate the hurt, and teach a healthy path forward through two means: 1) an institutional systemic approach for the church to continue change, and 2) a pathway to having conversations that promote healing and forgiving relationships with each other.

The Grief Journey Workshop. This 90-minute workshop covers many essential areas of grief and how to bring our grief to God and one another for relief. I address the loss of relationships, life losses (financial, dreams, control), church hurts, as well as the fears and concerns associated with each and how to achieve resolution. Training is offered on how to lead grief groups, using my book, The Grief Journey: Finding Peace in All of Life’s Losses or the Spanish version, El Viaje del Duelo: Encontrar la paz en Todas las Pérdidas de la Vida in person or on zoom.

We Stand in the Gap: Understanding Suicide Ideation and What to Do About It. This workshop covers causes, identifying features, and preventative measures of suicide. Christian resources in the church setting are used to develop and sustain support. It includes a “suicide protocol” used in ICOC churches to find immediate help and ongoing support.

Journey of the Soul: Finding Peace Through Spiritual Disciplines. This 60-minute workshop covers topics on solace, sabbath, meditation, and other spiritual disciplines that lead to better mental health and discipleship. The workshop concludes with a meditation called: Our Challenges and Jesus’ Gentle and Lowly Heart.

Stress in the Storm: Coping with Anxiety & Depression with the Friends Who Help. This class is aimed toward those who suffer from anxiety and depression and how the church setting is the perfect place to find help. It is also useful for those friends who help as mentors or ministry leaders. Q & A follows.

Insights of a 12-year-old: Counseling Lessons from Jesus. In this 90-minute workshop I train staff and/or small group leaders how to be better equipped to help their members with normal and challenging life issues. This is a “Counseling 101” course that equips mentors and other leaders to engage church members more successfully with empathy, listening skills, and the art of asking effective and life changing questions.

Jesus’ Creative Heart to Heal. This is typically done as a Sunday sermon/communion time. The message focuses on Jesus’ heart to help his people and is a foundational aspect of the In Motion Counseling services. This is a great visitor bringer with an energetic and faith building approach for the church as well.

A Beautiful Resistance. This workshop discusses "getting under the hood" of purity issues. Going beyond behavioral change, Tim introduces three God-given features of sustainable change for those struggling with impurity.

The Recovery Journey. This workshop is aimed at informing church members and the community on recovery concepts from a biblical perspective. In it, we present a person (Jesus) and not merely principles for recovery. I briefly present nine recovery concepts that allow members to overcome any manner of problem in their lives. Further training can take place on zoom for those who wish to lead these groups. The Recovery Journey meets twice a year for nine weeks (usually from February-May and September-November). The guidebook, The Recovery Journey: Jesus’ Heart for the Hurting is available for this ministry.

Pastoral Care & Counseling. This workshop can be tailor made for the needs of your staff, leaders, and elders. It may include (you choose):
• Practical Counseling theory (pastoral solution-focused and cognitive behavioral)
• The heart of the counselor/elder/staff member
• Emotional intelligence training

Counselor to the Minister: Tim offers a safe & confidential space for the church staff to discuss their challenges in life. These counseling sessions are a part of an In Motion Counseling weekend visit.
